Beware of Scam Calls After a Car Accident

Protect Yourself From Scammers Requesting Accident Information

Car accident victims have enough things to navigate through following a motor vehicle collision - dealing with insurance companies, medical doctors, and dealing with their physical pain. This is a confusing process for many and as such, has presented an opportunity for new types of scam calls that have become more prevalent recently. Many have received the scam calls regarding their extended warranty. It was so pervasive for years that it became a punch line. Those types of calls have waned, but the scamming attempts have not.

People involved in car accidents have reported an increase in calls from scammers claiming to be offering compensation for property damage or free vehicle repair estimates. They pretend to be from an official-sounding legitimate organization[s] such as “Accident Resources” or “Auto Accident Helpline”. They bombard these car accident victims with phone calls and texts, claiming they need to “get your accident claim approved” or “offer free independent damage estimates”.

They will often mention a range for which monetary compensation is available, luring an already vulnerable individual into freely giving out their personal information. These calls can confuse those who are reeling from a car crash as they deal with their physical injuries, seek medical treatment, and navigate the nuances of insurance claims.
